WPD Launches Online Portal For Sharing Your Video

The Wilmington Police Department has launched a new online portal that allows residents and business owners to securely share video and photo evidence with investigators. The initiative comes as private security cameras and digital evidence play an increasingly important role in solving crimes.

Officials said the system, operated through Axon and Evidence.com, enables the public to upload footage related to incidents such as package thefts, car break-ins, motor vehicle accidents, or suspicious activity.

To participate, individuals must first fill out a form providing their name, email address, and details about the date, time, and block where the footage was captured. Once the form is completed, a unique single-use link will be sent by email, typically within one business day, allowing for secure and confidential submission of files.

Each submission will be reviewed by the department’s Technical Resource Unit. Due to the volume of materials received, police noted that contributors may not be contacted directly by investigators, but all evidence will be examined.

Authorities emphasized that this program does not replace the process of filing a police report. Victims of crimes are still required to make a formal report, either by contacting police directly or through responding officers.

The department described the program as a pilot initiative and said it looks forward to evaluating the effort and making improvements in the future.
