Woman Airlifted After Route 1 Rollover Crash Wednesday

A serious motor vehicle collision occurred late Wednesday morning on Route 1 Northbound near Bayview Road.

Authorities said that at approximately 10:17 a.m., New Castle County Paramedics, Delaware State Police Aviation, and fire crews from Odessa, Middletown’s Volunteer Hose Company, and Port Penn responded to the scene for reports of a rollover crash.

Emergency personnel arrived to find a single vehicle that had left the roadway and overturned. A 24-year-old female was trapped inside the vehicle and required extrication by fire department personnel.

Once freed, the patient was treated at the scene before being transported by Delaware State Police Aviation’s Trooper 4 helicopter to Christiana Hospital in Stanton, with New Castle County Paramedics accompanying her. She was reported to be in serious condition with extremity and possible internal injuries.

The Delaware State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
