Police: 19 YO Struck And Killed Tuesday

A fatal crash in Clayton claimed the life of a 19-year-old pedestrian Tuesday morning, according to Delaware State Police. The collision occurred at about 10:20 a.m. as a Chevrolet Silverado traveled south on Wheatley’s Pond Road near Bryn Zion Road

Investigators reported that the pickup left its lane and entered the southbound shoulder, where it struck a pedestrian who had been walking in the same direction while accompanying his bicycle.

The pedestrian, identified only as a 19-year-old Clayton resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are withholding his name pending notification of family.

Police said the driver of the Chevrolet, a 64-year-old Smyrna man, was not injured. Wheatley’s Pond Road remained closed for roughly three hours while troopers examined and cleared the scene.

The Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation.
