An 18-year-old Georgetown man has died weeks after suffering critical injuries in a violent crash earlier this month.

The crash occurred on May 1 at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Bethesda Road, north of Avenue of Honor in Georgetown.

Investigators said a Honda Accord was traveling northbound at an apparent high rate of speed when the driver lost control. The vehicle left the east side of the roadway and struck a culvert ditch before becoming airborne, police said.

After going airborne, the Honda struck a utility pole and overturned, ejecting the driver from the vehicle.

The driver, identified as 18-year-old Pablo Pineda Pindea of Georgetown, was not properly restrained at the time of the crash, according to police. He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition following the collision.

Delaware State Police said Pineda Pindea died from his injuries on May 26.
