Woman Critically Injured In Cross Over Crash Monday

A woman was critically injured and another driver hurt in a crash involving a crossover vehicle and a tractor-trailer Monday morning in Newark, according to emergency officials.

New Castle County Paramedics, Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company of Newark, and a Christiana Fire Company ambulance were dispatched at approximately 6:56 a.m. to Christina Parkway at Science Boulevard for a reported motor vehicle collision with a trapped person.

Responding crews found a two-vehicle crash involving a crossover and a tractor-trailer. Officials said the driver of the crossover was trapped for approximately 15 minutes before being freed by fire department personnel.

A 27-year-old woman driving the crossover suffered extremity and internal injuries. She was treated by New Castle County Paramedics and transported by an Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton in critical condition.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 42-year-old man, suffered extremity injuries. He was treated by New Castle County Paramedics and transported by a Christiana Fire Company ambulance to Christiana Hospital in stable condition.

The City of Newark Police Department is investigating the collision.
