A 46-year-old Dover man was killed early Sunday morning after his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree near Hartly, according to Delaware State Police.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:10 a.m. on October 4, 2026, as a Ford Fusion was traveling eastbound on Arthursville Road, west of Gunter Road. Police said the preliminary investigation determined that the Fusion failed to negotiate a slight curve, exited the south side of the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of his family.

Arthursville Road was closed for approximately three hours while investigators examined the scene and the roadway was cleared.

The Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the crash.
