23-Year-Old Newark Man Killed In Rising Sun Crash

Rising Sun, MD. – On August 23, 2017 just before 6 a.m., North East Barrack troopers responded to a crash on Joseph Biggs Memorial Highway (MD 274), east of Harrington Road in Rising Sun, Maryland, according to police.

Officials said during the investigation, it was determined that a 2011 Mazda 6 operated by Mr. Tanner Schintzius, 24, from Newark Delaware, was traveling eastbound on MD 274 when it swerved into the opposite lane to avoid a collision with a vehicle backing out of a driveway onto MD 274, according to police.  The Mazda then struck a Jeep Patriot, which was traveling westbound on MD 274, head-on.

Schintzius was pronounced deceased at the scene by responding Cecil County EMS.

The driver of the Jeep was identified as Robert Morgan, 23, from Earleville, Maryland. He was flown by Maryland State Police Medevac to Shock Trauma in Baltimore with unspecified injuries.

Any potential witnesses to this crash are asked to contact the North East barrack at 410-996-7800.

The investigation continues.
