Newark – The Newark Police are investigating a shoplifting/robbery which occurred at the Acme located in the College Square Shopping Center on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at 9:15 p.m., according to Sgt. Gerald J. Bryda.

Bryda said a 58-year-old female employee confronted a male who was attempting to leave the store with a cart full of store items without paying.

The employee grabbed onto the shopping cart in an attempt to stop him. The suspect pushed and shoved the employee until she fell to the ground, which also knocked over the cart, according to Byrda. The suspect proceeded to pick up the cart and slam it onto the employee, causing a laceration to her leg, which did not require immediate medical attention, said Byrda.

The suspect then fled the store on foot without the stolen items, which was valued at $207 of various store merchandise.

The suspect is described as a black male, wearing a black puffy jacket, blue jeans, and flip-flops.
