Newark – The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating last evening’s fire in Newark that critically injured a man, according to Assistant State Fire Marshal, Michael Chionchio.
Chionchio said the blaze, reported shortly after 8:00 pm, occurred in the unit block of Chestnut Avenue in the Roseville Park neighborhood. The Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder Company arrived on the scene with smoke pouring from the house.
Upon arrival, crews found one occupant, a 66-year-old male, suffering from burns and smoke inhalation. He was transported to the Christiana Hospital Emergency Room in critical condition.
State fire investigators were on the scene searching for the fire’s origin and cause.
Firefighters from Aetna’s Hose, Hook, and Ladder, along with mutual aid from across New Castle County responded to incident, Aetna Fire Chief, Andrew Bowerson had command.
The Fire Marshal’s Office is expected to release further details as more information becomes available.
No other injuries have been reported.
