At around 10:12 a.m., Friday morning, multiple emergency response agencies were called to a serious motor vehicle collision at Eagles Nest Landing Road, near Gum Bush Road.
Involved in the accident were two sedan-style vehicles, with one crashing into a utility pole, earlier reports indicated that the vehicle struck a tree.
Officials said an 81-year-old male driver was trapped in one of the sedans. This situation necessitated an extrication of the patient that lasted approximately 10 minutes.
Following his release from the vehicle, he was airlifted to Christiana Hospital in Stanton by Delaware State Police Aviation’s Trooper 4. The man was reported to be in serious condition, suffering from head injuries and potential internal trauma.
The driver of the other vehicle reportedly refused transport to the hospital.
The emergency services crews included New Castle County EMS (Paramedics), Townsend Fire Company, Citizens Hose Company (Smyrna), American Legion EMS, and Delaware State Police Aviation.
Delaware State Police are investigating the crash.
