On Wednesday morning, at approximately 6:24 a.m., a motor vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Kirkwood Highway and Limestone Road, according to Lieutenant Abigail Haas.
Haas said the New Castle County Paramedics, alongside firefighters from Mill Creek Fire Company, Cranston Heights Fire Company, and an ambulance from Belvedere Fire Company, were dispatched to the scene following reports of the accident involving multiple patients and entrapment.
Upon arrival, responders found a three-vehicle collision involving a school bus, a work van, and an SUV. It was observed that the school bus had only two occupants at the time of the incident. The driver of the work van was found trapped within the wreckage. A member from New Castle County’s Emergency Management Division, who happened to be in the vicinity, assisted the trapped individual out of the vehicle.
The accident resulted in four individuals requiring immediate medical attention. Haas said a 64-year-old male, suffering from internal injuries, was transported in serious condition. Another 64-year-old male, with an extremity injury, was listed in stable condition. A 36-year-old female, presenting with both internal and spinal injuries, was also transported in stable condition and a 34-year-old female, who sustained an arm injury, was treated and transported in stable condition as well.
The Delaware State Police are investigating the crash. The road is expected to reopen before 8:00 this morning.
