Troopers Say Woman Stole $25K In Merchandise

A Wilmington woman has been arrested following an investigation into retail thefts and an alleged fraudulent bank transaction.

According to investigators, the case stems from a series of shoplifting incidents reported between September and December 2025 at retail stores in the Christiana Mall and Fashion Center shopping areas in Newark. Troopers said the suspect, working with different accomplices, is accused of stealing large quantities of clothing and fragrances over that period.

Authorities further alleged that on March 17, 2026, the same individual attempted to cash a fraudulent check valued at more than $4,000 at a bank in Wilmington. Bank employees became suspicious and contacted the account holder, who confirmed the check was fraudulent.

Police said the investigation ultimately identified 30-year-old Nyejierra Drummond as the primary suspect and linked her to the theft of more than $24,800 in merchandise from multiple stores. Investigators indicated efforts are ongoing to identify additional individuals who may have been involved.

Drummond was taken into custody on April 9, 2026, in Wilmington and transported to Troop 6, where she was charged with attempted theft of $1,500 or greater involving a victim age 62 or older, second-degree forgery, four counts of theft organized retail crime over $1,500, shoplifting over $1,500, five counts of second-degree conspiracy, and shoplifting under $1,500.

She was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $25,000 cash bail and a $1,000 unsecured bond.
