Manhunt For 4th of July Shooting Suspect Ends In PA

A Wilmington man has been arrested in Pennsylvania after Delaware State Police said he shot a woman Saturday evening

The shooting occurred on July 4, 2026, at approximately 6:45 p.m. in the 2100 block of Marsh Road to the Papa Johns parking lot. According to investigators, troopers responded to reports of a shooting and found a 35-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the face. Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Detectives said they determined that 39-year-old Paul Waller of Wilmington shot the woman during a verbal interaction before fleeing the area.

First State Update has learned that following the shooting, officers from multiple law enforcement agencies were actively searching for Waller. At one point, Wilmington Police officers spotted him, but he was able to flee before he could be taken into custody.

As the search continued, SWAT officers and a drone operator were preparing to launch a drone to assist in locating Waller. However, severe thunderstorms moved through the area, delaying the aerial search.

Detectives with the Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit obtained an arrest warrant charging Waller with attempted first-degree murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

On July 5, 2026, Waller was taken into custody in Pennsylvania. Officials did not disclose what time he was arrested or identify the agency that took him into custody. Waller’s status has not been posted to the Pennsylvania’s public facing court records He will be extradited to Delaware to face the charges.

The Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit continues to investigate the shooting.
