Fire Marshal: New Castle House Fire Was Arson

New Castle – The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office has determined that last night’s, Wednesday, January 18, 2017,  house fire in New Castle, Delaware was arson, according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael G. Chionchio.

Chionchio said that the he blaze, reported shortly after 11:30 pm, occurred in the unit block of Fresconi Court in the New Castle Pointe development.

The Christiana Fire Company responded to the report of a townhouse on fire, said Chionchio. State fire investigators responded to the scene and are conducting the criminal investigation.

new-castle-arsonChionchio said the fire was intentionally started and spread to the two adjacent occupied homes. Six people were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Heavy fire damage totaled cause an estimated $300,000 to the town homes, according to Chionchio.
