Troopers Id Man Who Was Killed While Walking Dog, Hit-And-Run Driver Sought

Sandtown – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into the fatal hit and run crash involving a pedestrian, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Gary Fournier.

Fournier said the incident occurred around 9:07 p.m. Tuesday September 5, 2017 as Robert L. Coberly, 35 of Felton, was walking his dog westbound on the shoulder of Willow Grove Road (SR10) east of Sandtown Road. An unknown make and model vehicle was traveling westbound on SR10 when it struck Coberly and threw him into a tax ditch on the north side of the roadway near his residence. The vehicle then continued westbound without stopping.

Robert Coberly was pronounced dead at the scene by Kent County Paramedics. His dog was able to run back to the residence and was uninjured.

SR10 between Sandtown Road and Mahon Corner Road was closed for approximately four hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. Sandtown – The Delaware State Police are currently on the scene of a fatal hit and run pedestrian crash, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Gary Fournier.

Fournier said the incident occurred around 9:07 p.m. Tuesday September 5, 2017 in the area of the 1000 block of Willow Grove Road (SR10) east of Sandtown Road and involves a pedestrian struck by a car. The pedestrian was been pronounced dead at the scene

An unknown type of car fled westbound on SR10, possibly into Maryland, according to Fournier.

SR10 between Sandtown Road and Mahon Corner Road was closed in the area as Troopers investigated.

Sandtown is 20 miles Southwest of Dover.
