Dover-The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Friday evening involving a pedestrian, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the incident occurred on Friday, June 15, 2018 at approximately 9:56 p.m. as a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling northbound in the left lane of N. Dupont Highway (US 13), north of Fast Landing Road (SR 42). A pedestrian was running westbound across the northbound lane of N. Dupont Highway, directly into the path of the Silverado. The Silverado struck the pedestrian with its front bumper, said Jaffe. The impact caused the pedestrian to be thrown into the left lane, where she came to a final resting place in the center of N. Dupont Highway. The Silverado was able to come to a controlled stop in the median.

The operator of the Silverado, a 49-year-old man of Smyrna, was properly restrained and was wearing his seatbelt. Impairment does not appear to be a factor on his behalf.

The pedestrian, 25-year-old, Larissa M. Tallhamer of Smyrna, was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was wearing dark clothing with no reflective material, and was not carrying a light. Impairment on her behalf is unknown at this time.

N. Dupont Highway in the area of Fast Landing Road was closed for approximately 4 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.
