HAZMAT Teams Respond To Lab Fire At Delaware Technology Park In Newark

A lab fire at the Delaware Technology Park, behind the old KMART, brought fire crews from across New Castle County Wednesday night.

Just before 8:00, a fire broke out in a University of Delaware Lab at 5 Innovation Way. The fire was contained to the lab and was knocked down quickly after the arrival of crews from Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder.

HAZMAT crews from across New Castle County were alerted and responded to the scene.

Crews later determined that there was no threat to the public, according to reports.

No injuries were reported.

Newark – Firefighters from Aetna, along with crews from across New Castle County are responding to 5 Innovation Way for reports of a fire with a HAZMAT condition.

First crews to arrive have knocked down the fire down and are ordering everyone else to stay out of the building. Officials are trying to determine what the material inside the building is.

Update: 8:46 – It’s unclear what the material is or what started the fire. Crews are about to enter the building to take readings.

No injuries have been reported.
