Newark Police Identify Man Charged With DUI After Slamming Into Police Vehicle

On Thursday evening, January 3, 2019, at about 6:14, a Newark Police Officer conducted a traffic stop of a tractor-trailer on the right shoulder of Elkton Road about 1/2 mile south of Christina Parkway in Newark. While the police officer was out of his vehicle and speaking with the operator of the tractor-trailer, a 2013 Hyundai, operated by Sean Finney, struck the rear of the 2017 Newark Police Department Chevrolet Tahoe, according to Lt Andrew Rubin. The Tahoe was fully marked and had its emergency lights on at the time of the crash. After striking the police vehicle, the Hyundai continued forward and struck the rear of the tractor-trailer.

Finney, 30, of Newark, was transported to an area hospital by ambulance for minor injuries and was later released. He was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Failing to Move Over for an Emergency Vehicle and Operating an Unregistered Vehicle. He was released pending a future appearance in Newark Alderman’s Court #40.

The police officer and the operator of the tractor-trailer were not injured in the crash.
