Officials: UD’s Chabad Center For Jewish Life Fire Was Arson

The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal has determined that this fire was intentionally started, according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio.

Chionchio said a criminal arson investigation is underway with investigators following up on leads.

The blaze, reported shortly after 11:00 pm, occurred in the 200 block of South College Avenue. The Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company arrived on the scene with flames shooting from the structure.

Chionchio said the building houses the Chabad Center for Jewish Life. No one was inside the building when a neighbor discovered the fire.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating last night’s fire in Newark, Delaware that heavily damaged a building.

Anyone with information regarding this fire is asked to call the State Fire Marshal’s – New Castle Division at (302) 323-5375 or Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333.
