Camden Man Dies In Harrington Motorcycle Crash Thursday

Harrington- Delaware State Police is investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 22-year-old Camden, Delaware, man, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Heather Pepper.

Pepper said on May 20, 2021, at approximately 5:33 p.m., a 1998 Yamaha YZF sport style motorcycle was traveling southbound on S. DuPont Highway in the right lane approaching State Fair Boulevard. A brown 2017 Buick Encore was stopped at the posted stop sign on State Fair Boulevard, preparing to cross the southbound lanes of S. DuPont Highway and enter the median crossover to travel northbound. Due to the extreme rate of speed by the motorcycle, the operator of the Buick was unable to perceive the motorcycle and began to crossover the southbound travel lanes, said Pepper. The Yamaha struck the left side of the Buick on the left rear passenger door, causing the Buick to rotate nearly 180 degrees before coming to rest. After impact, the operator of the motorcycle came to rest in the left travel lane.

The operator of the motorcycle was a 22-year-old male of Camden. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died. Identification is pending notification to next of kin.

The operator of the Buick was an 81-year-old female of Dover. She was flown to Christiana Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. She was treated and will be released.

The Delaware State Police Troop 3 Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the collision. Anyone with information regarding the incident should contact Cpl/3 Joseph Lane by calling 302-697-4454.
