Photos: Man Dies From Wounds Suffered In Newark Christmas Day Shooting

New Castle County Police are investigating a Christmas Day homicde in Newark.

On December 25, 2021 Dec 25, at approximately 7:00 p.m. patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the 600 block of Barrett’s Lane in the community of Barrett’s Run for the report of shots being fired.

When the officers arrived, they found an 18-year-old male victim who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. First-Aid was administered, and the victim was transported to a local area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police Criminal Investigations Unit arrived at the scene and assumed the investigation.

Shortly after the patient was transported, residents of the complex reported that a police tactical team arrived on scene with  BearCat armored vehicles. Police did not say if the arrival of the SWaT team was related to the shooting.

Residents tell FSU that the SWAT team was loud hailing a subject over the loudspeaker. They identified the person by name and apartment number, according to one resident. Shortly after the loud hailing stopped a loud noise was heard and the incident began wrapping up.

The tactical team remained on scene until around 2:00 Sunday morning according to the residents. Police did not say if anyone has been arrested as a result of the shooting or the SWAT activity.
