Oxford Man Charged With Multiple Felonies After Traffic Stop

Delaware State Police have arrested 65-year-old John Magers of Oxford, Pennsylvania on drugs and firearms charges following a traffic stop that occurred Monday morning in the Wilmington area.

Officials said on February 27, 2023, at approximately 10:11 a.m., a trooper on patrol observed a silver Audi A4 traveling southbound on Interstate 495 at Holly Oak Road, Wilmington above the posted speed limit. The trooper initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the operator, a 32-year-old female, and the front passenger, identified as John Magers.

Upon contact, suspected drugs and paraphernalia were observed in plain view police said. Both occupants were then taken into custody without incident. A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately .105 grams of heroin, approximately .9 grams of crack cocaine, 750 morphine pills, two rifles, and ammunition according to police.

Both occupants were transported back to Troop 1. Further investigation determined the vehicle, drugs, and weapons belonged to Magers police said Wednesday. He was then charged with the following crimes:

Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Tier 3 Quantity (Felony)
Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance in a Tier 3 Quantity (Felony)
Possession of a Firearm by Person Prohibited While Possessing a Controlled Substance (Felony)- 2 Counts
Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)- 2 counts
Possession of a Controlled Substance- 2 counts
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $106,000 secured bond.
