One Dead, One Seriously Injured In Townsend House Fire

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating last night’s fire in Townsend, Delaware that heavily damaged a home and fatally injured one occupant. 

Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio said The blaze, reported shortly after 11:00 pm, occurred in the 500 block of Gum Bush Road.  The Townsend Fire Company arrived on the scene with flames shooting from the one-story dwelling and one person trapped inside the burning house.  Firefighters rescued the occupant and transported them to Christiana Care Middletown Emergency Department where they were  pronounced dead. 

State fire investigators are currently on the scene searching for the fire’s origin and cause.  A 2nd occupant was transported to the Christiana Hospital in serious condition suffering from smoke inhalation.  

Heavy fire damage was estimated at $100,000.  This fire remains under investigation.
