Townsend Man Dies From Injuries Suffered In March Accident

The Delaware State Police is conducting an investigation into a tragic motor vehicle accident that occurred in Townsend in the month of March.

Officials said on March 23, 2023, at approximately 9:53 a.m., an Audi Q3 was traveling southbound on Summit Bridge Road approaching Green Giant Road. A Jeep Comanche was traveling northbound on Summit Bridge Road, approaching the intersection to turn westbound onto Green Giant Road. A Chevy Silverado was stopped at the stop sign in the eastbound lane of Green Giant Road. The Jeep turned left into the path of the Audi, which caused the Audi’s front bumper to strike the right rear side of the Jeep. The Jeep began rotating counterclockwise, causing its left rear side to strike the left side of the Chevy’s front bumper.

Following the collision, the operator of the Audi, a 65-year-old woman from Middletown, was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries. The operator of the Chevy, a 41-year-old man from Townsend, was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries. The operator of the Jeep, 84-year-old Charles Cook of Townsend, was transported to an area hospital, where he was admitted for critical injuries. On April 10, 2023, he died from injuries sustained during the collision.

The roadway was closed for approximately 2 hours while the collision was investigated, and the roadway was cleared.
