he Delaware State Police, with assistance from the Newark Police Department, is currently conducting an investigation at The Grove, formerly known as the College Square Shopping Center.
The incident revolves around an armed individual who has barricaded themselves inside an apartment at the Compass at the Grove Apartments. As a result, a sizable area surrounding the shopping center has been cordoned off, causing inconvenience and disruption to residents, businesses, and construction workers in the vicinity.
In order to prioritize public safety, nearby residences were evacuated as a precautionary measure. To contain the incident and minimize potential risks, all entrances to the apartment complex have been sealed off according to police.
Multiple law enforcement agencies have converged at the scene to address the situation. Police officers, including specialized tactical teams, have surrounded the area encompassing the apartments. The road between Marrows Road and Compass Ways is where much of the action is taking place.
The closed-off area has been expanded to include the back parking lot of the shopping center, leaving residents unable to access their apartments. Additionally, construction work has been temporarily halted, leading to a group of workers milling about the shopping center.
The Delaware State Police is expected to release further details as they become available.
