Police: Man Facing DUI, Weapon Charges After Chase

Delaware State Police have arrested 34-year-old Miguel Fantauzzi-Rivera of Lincoln on DUI and weapon charges following a vehicle pursuit that occurred in the Smyrna area last night.

Officials said on June 6, 2023, at approximately 9:55 p.m., a trooper was investigating a violation of a court order at a residence on West Glenwood Avenue in Smyrna when the suspect returned to the residence in a black SUV. The trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the vehicle fled according to police. The suspect fled southbound on Route 13 and turned onto eastbound Big Woods Road where he lost control of the vehicle and went into a ditch. With assistance from officers of the Smyrna Police Department, the suspect identified as Miguel Fantauzzi-Rivera was taken into custody without incident. During contact with Fantauzzi-Rivera, troopers observed signs of impairment and a DUI investigation ensued police said. Additionally, a subsequent search of his vehicle led to the discovery of a handgun reported stolen out of Columbia, South Carolina.

Fantauzzi-Rivera was transported to Troop 9 and charged with the following offenses:

  • Receiving a Stolen Firearm (Felony)
  • Disregarding a Police Officer Signal (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm While Under the Influence
  • Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
  • Breach of Release
  • Criminal Trespass Third Degree
  • Numerous traffic offenses

Fantauzzi-Rivera was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court #7 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on an $8,106 secured bond.
