Police Update Friday Shooting In Milltown

The New Castle County, Division of Police, is currently investigating a shooting that occurred in the 1300 block of Cynwyd Club Drive. 

On Friday evening, officers responded to the Cynwyd Club Apartment Complex for the report of a domestic-related shooting in progress. 

Officers arrived on scene to find a 40-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the torso and a contusion on her head. 

Further investigation revealed a physical altercation with weapons occurred earlier between a 14-year-old male and a 41-year-old man. The female victim responded to the apartment and confronted the 41-year-old man with a baseball bat police said. The man armed himself with a handgun and ultimately shot the woman police said. 

Both the woman and the teenager fled the area and called 9-1-1. 

All three subjects were transported to Christiana Medical Center where they were treated and released. 

The male subject was taken into custody on scene without incident and has been identified as Michael Ruduszewski. 

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit responded to the scene to assume the investigation. 

Michael has been charged with the following:

  • Assault in the first degree
  • Reckless endangerment in the first degree 
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony
  • Possession of a firearm by a person prohibited 
  • Child abuse in the second degree

Michael has not been arraigned at this time according to police. 

Breaking Report

Just after 10:20 Friday evening, a chaotic scene unfolded at the Cynwyd Club Apartments in the 1300 block of Cynwyd Club Drive in Milltown. Rescue crews from the Mill Creek Fire Company, along with New Castle County Paramedics and New Castle County Police, were dispatched following reports of a shooting. The situation quickly escalated as more victims were discovered, necessitating additional medical attention.

As rescue crews rushed to the scene, they received updates indicating that at least one person had been shot in the torso. The severity of the injuries was not immediately known. Initial reports from the scene revealed that a woman had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency personnel transported her to the trauma center for medical care. However, the current condition of the woman remains unknown at this time.

While on scene, first responders requested an additional ambulance to accommodate a second patient. Initial reports from the scene indicate that a male in his 40s was also injured at the scene. He was reportedly struck in the head with a bat. The circumstances surrounding this assault are still under investigation. The second victim was also transported to the trauma center, but the extent of his injuries and his current condition have not been disclosed.

Moments after the woman was transported, rescue crews requested a third ambulance for a third patient. The injuries to the third patient and their condition are unknown at this early stage.
