Man Rescued From Delaware River After Boat Sinks Monday

Just before 8:40 Monday morning, several New Castle County fire companies were dispatched to the Delaware River near Reedy Island following reports of a potential water rescue.

While en route to the location, they were informed by the U.S. Coast Guard about a possible submerged vessel with an injured individual at the location. A good Samaritan vessel was already at the scene providing assistance according to the report.

As the situation unfolded, crews were informed by other boaters that the injured individual had been retrieved by the Miss Judy tug boat. Subsequently, this patient was transferred to another boat that was making its way to Delaware City. A rescue boat, in an attempt to reach the patient, managed to establish contact near Delaware City.

The injured individual informed crews that they had been aboard their vessel when it was hit by another boat. As a result of the collision, the individual ended up in the water for an undetermined amount of time.

The injured person has been transported to Christiana Hospital, reported to be in serious condition.

Crews from Port Penn, Delaware City, DNREC, the U.S. Coast Guard, New Castle County Paramedics and nearby vessels played assisted in the incident.
