Driver Hospitalized After Knocking Power Out In Greenwood

File

On Tuesday night at around 9:25, in Sussex County, a motor vehicle accident occurred in the 12000 block of Shawnee Road om Greenwood, involving a rollover crash with entrapment.

The incident, which took place near the cross streets of Greenhurst Farm Road and Mennonite School Road, prompted a response from multiple emergency services, including Greenwood, Farmington, Sussex County Paramedics, and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit, Trooper 2.

Upon arrival, the first responders encountered a complicated situation with wires down on the vehicle, necessitating the closure of the road. The presence of live wires on the vehicle led to the need for crews from the Delaware Electric Co-Op. Crews responded and cut the power off just after 10:00. This allowed rescue crews to begin the extrication process of the trapped driver.

Initially, DSP Aviation Trooper 2 was on standby for potential transport needs. However, minutes after the extrication process began, the on-scene commander informed Trooper 2 that their services for transport would not be required, as per the directive of Sussex County Paramedics. The helicopter had landed nearby while they waiting for the electric crews to respond.

At approximately 10:08, it was reported that the patient was successfully freed from the vehicle. The driver was then transported to Bay Health Sussex in Milford. The extent and nature of the injuries sustained by the driver are currently unknown.

The incident also had a temporary impact on the local power supply, with reports of power loss from FSU readers in the area due to the crash. However, it has been confirmed that there are no ongoing power outages in the area currently.
