Woman Killed In Tragic Accident In Smyrna

Delaware State Police are currently investigating a fatal automobile accident that claimed the life of a 47-year-old Clayton woman.

Officials said the incident occurred on the evening of November 4, when a 2016 Honda Accord was involved in a single-vehicle crash in the vicinity of Wheatleys Pond Road and Sunnyside Road in Smyrna.

The preliminary investigation has found that at around 9:19 p.m., the black sedan was proceeding eastbound at a high rate of speed when it attempted to navigate a curve police said. The vehicle veered off the road into a ditch. The Honda Accord then overturned, resulting in the driver being ejected from the vehicle.

The woman was transported to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Authorities have withheld her identity pending notification of her next of kin.

The accident resulted in the closure of the affected section of the roadway for three hours.
