Police Charge Teen With Stealing Vehicle, Released On Unsecured Bond

Wilmington Police have arrested and charged a 16-year-old male with multiple offenses, including the theft of a motor vehicle, following an incident on December 18.

The Wilmington Police Department said that at around 7:45 a.m., they received a call regarding a stolen vehicle on the 300 block of East 14th Street. Officers arrived at the scene and quickly located the vehicle on the 900 block of Wilson Street and witnessed several juveniles fleeing from it.

A foot chase led to the apprehension of the driver, a 16-year-old male police said. Upon arrest, he was found in possession of a small amount of marijuana added officials. His charges include theft of a motor vehicle, theft under $1,500, possession of marijuana, and resisting arrest.

Following his arraignment in New Castle County Family Court, the teenager was released on a $5,000 unsecured bail.

Unsecured bail is when a defendant signs a bond that guarantees court appearances for further hearings, with the understanding that failure to appear will result in the obligation to pay the court a specified sum of money, in this case, $5,000. No money is required upon release.
