Fire Rips Through Home Early Saturday Morning

File

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting an investigation into an early morning house fire in Wilmington.

The incident began just before 2:30 on Saturday morning, when firefighters from the Five Points Fire Company responded to a reported structure fire in the 500 block of Homestead Road.

The report prompted additional support from several area mutual aid fire companies and New Castle County Paramedics. Upon their arrival, firefighting crews encountered heavy flames coming from a middle of the row townhouse. As crews worked the fire they received conflicting reports suggesting the possibility of someone trapped inside the residence.

As firefighters worked the blaze they reported fire in both the kitchen and a bedroom. Simultaneously, a search of the home was conducted for potential victims, but no one was found. The crew also searched for the homeowner’s dog.

The fire was extinguished in less than twenty minutes, with crews reporting that the fire had not spread to adjacent areas of the home. The operation continued with firefighters focusing on extinguishing any remaining hotspots. As of 3:16 AM, the situation was declared under control, although it remained unclear whether the family dog was located inside the house.

A child was treated for minor burns and transported to AI DuPont Hospital. There is no information at this time regarding any additional injuries sustained during the incident.
