Police: Meth Lab Found In Local Milford Motel

On Saturday, Milford Police arrested a 35-year-old Milford man after responding to a reported trespassing incident at the Rodeway Inn, located in the 1000 block of North Walnut Street.

According to police, officers were dispatched to the motel at approximately 12:53 p.m. for a complaint regarding a guest who refused to vacate his room. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the individual, identified by police as Dieter Smith. Authorities stated that Smith became disorderly and began intentionally damaging property inside the room.

Police reported that Smith was taken into custody at the scene. During a subsequent search, officers allegedly discovered crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia in Smith’s possession.

Authorities went on to say that while inspecting the motel room, officers located materials consistent with the manufacturing of methamphetamine. Officers exited the room and contacted the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) to assist in the investigation. According to police, DNREC determined the materials had not yet been used in the production of methamphetamine and took responsibility for their safe disposal.

As a result of the investigation, Smith was charged with Unlawful to Knowingly Operate or Attempt to Operate a Clandestine Laboratory (Felony), Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Controlled or Counterfeit Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Criminal Mischief under $1000, Disorderly Conduct, and Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree.

Officials said that Smith was presented at Justice of the Peace Court 7 and subsequently committed to the Delaware Department of Correction on $11,500 secured bail. He is scheduled to appear in the Kent County Court of Common Pleas for a preliminary hearing at a later date.
