Police Chase End With Crash Into Home

Dover Police arrested three suspects, including two adults and a juvenile, following a pursuit of a stolen vehicle that ended in Smyrna on Thursday morning.

The incident began at 6:42 a.m., when officers located a stolen 2018 Hyundai Tucson in the area of North DuPont Highway and River Road. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver failed to comply, initiating a pursuit that traveled west through Dover to Hartly before ending on Wheatley’s Pond Road in Smyrna.

The pursuit concluded when a Clayton Police officer deployed a tire deflation device. The vehicle came to a stop after striking a house. The driver, identified as 19-year-old Brandon Carter (L) of Dover, fled on foot but was apprehended after a short chase police said. Two passengers, 18-year-old Nasir Peace (R) and a 15-year-old male, both of Dover, were taken into custody without incident. A search of the vehicle uncovered tools commonly associated with vehicle theft officials said.

Carter was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $9,004 secured bail, facing charges including possession of burglar’s tools, receiving stolen property over $1,500, disregarding a police signal, conspiracy second degree, criminal mischief over $1,000, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of a collision, and multiple traffic offenses.

Peace was released on a $4,000 unsecured bond on charges of receiving stolen property over $1,500, possession of burglar’s tools, and conspiracy second degree.

The 15-year-old was released to a guardian on his own recognizance on charges of receiving stolen property over $1,500, possession of burglar’s tools, and conspiracy second degree.
