Fire Leaves Man In Critical Condition Saturday

A residential fire in Laurel left one man in critical condition Saturday night, according to the Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal. The incident occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m. on November 15, 2025, in the 32000 block of Sussex Highway.

Chief Deputy John Galaska of the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office said firefighters arrived to find a single-family dwelling with heavy fire and smoke showing. Galaska reported that the structure was occupied at the time and that crews immediately began efforts to reach anyone who might still be inside.

According to Galaska, firefighters made entry into the burning home and located an unresponsive male. The victim was removed from the structure, where firefighters and EMS personnel began life-saving measures before transporting him to TidalHealth Nanticoke Hospital. He remains in critical condition.

Deputy State Fire Marshals responded to the scene and conducted an origin and cause investigation. Galaska stated that the cause of the fire remains under investigation as officials continue to review evidence gathered at the scene.

Damage to the home has been estimated at $80,000. No other injuries were reported by responding agencies.

The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal, headquartered in Georgetown, continues to lead the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire.
