Assisted Living Employee Charged With Burglarizing Residents Home, Released

The Delaware State Police arrested a Wilmington man on felony burglary and theft charges following an investigation into a reported theft at a senior living facility.

According to authorities, 62-year-old Kem Mays, of Wilmington, was taken into custody after troopers responded to Forwood Estates, located at 1912 Marsh Road, Sunday morning for a reported theft.

Investigators said that shortly after a resident of the facility left their apartment. Mays, who was employed at the facility, unlawfully entered the apartment and removed jewelry from inside.

During the investigation, troopers contacted Mays and recovered the stolen jewelry, which was returned to the victim, according to police.

Mays was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 1, where he was charged with Burglary Second Degree, a felony, and Theft Under $1,500 Where the Victim is 62 Years of Age or Older, also a felony. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on a $1,200 unsecured bond.
