Are You Driving A Stolen Car? Police Warn More Victims Possible

An investigation by the New Castle County Division of Police has resulted in the arrest of an 18-year-old man accused of selling stolen vehicles through social media platforms.

Detectives began the investigation in September 2025 after identifying a pattern involving stolen Honda and Acura vehicles being advertised online. Investigators determined the suspect used fraudulent vehicle identification numbers to disguise the vehicles’ true identities, allowing them to be sold to unsuspecting buyers. When purchasers later attempted to register the vehicles, the original identification numbers were discovered, revealing the vehicles had been reported stolen.

Authorities identified the suspect as 18-year-old Ailear Braxton, who allegedly operated under multiple names on social media to facilitate the sales.

Braxton was taken into custody on April 2, 2026. He has been charged with six felony counts of selling stolen property valued over $1,500 and six felony counts of receiving stolen property valued over $1,500. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $24,000 secured bail.

Detectives indicated there may be additional victims who unknowingly purchased stolen vehicles or vehicle parts, particularly Honda or Acura, through online marketplaces. Authorities are asking anyone who believes they may have been impacted or who has information related to the case to contact Detective Diksa at 302-395-8231 or via email at [email protected].
