Two Philadelphia teenagers were arrested Wednesday night after Delaware State Police pursued a stolen vehicle through Kent County.
According to investigators, troopers spotted a Nissan Altima reported stolen in Pennsylvania traveling southbound on South Dupont Highway near Walnut Shade Road shortly after 8:30 p.m. on June 17. When troopers attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle fled, leading police on a pursuit through several Kent County roadways.
Police said the Altima traveled through the Canterbury Crossing community, struck a Delaware State Police Tahoe, and continued driving recklessly at high speeds before stop sticks were deployed. The pursuit ended on Route 1 near Twin Willows Road when the vehicle struck a wire-rope median barrier.
The driver, identified as 19-year-old Aveion Edwards-Thomas of Philadelphia, and a 16-year-old male passenger were taken into custody without injury.
Edwards-Thomas was charged with Receiving Stolen Property Over $1,500, Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal, Conspiracy Second Degree, Malicious Mischief by a Motor Vehicle, and multiple traffic offenses. He was arraigned and committed to the Department of Correction on $2,900 cash bail.
The 16-year-old passenger was charged with Receiving Stolen Property Over $1,500 and Conspiracy Second Degree. He was arraigned and released to a parent or guardian on a $2,000 unsecured bond.
