Newark Man Dies In Motorcycle Crash On Route 1

Newark – The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle that that took place last night, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said the incident occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m., Monday, July 16, 2018 on northbound SR 1, south of I-95, in the vicinity of the Christiana Mall in Newark. A 2016 Harley Davidson X8N, operated by Christopher Syto, 37 of Newark, was traveling SR 1 northbound, prior to I-95, in the area where the roadway divides to form a total of four lanes. Syto attempted to crossover from the far left lane to the right, at which time he struck a crash attenuator at the end of a jersey barrier. After impacting the barrier Syto was separated from the motorcycle and thrown to the roadway.

Syto was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medics. Impairment on his behalf is unknown at this time, said Austin.

SR 1 northbound was closed at DE 273 for approximately 2.5 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
