On the afternoon of August 15, at approximately 2:46 p.m., officers from the Wilmington Police Department were dispatched to the 2900 block of Lancaster Avenue in response to reports of a shooting.
Upon their arrival at the scene, law enforcement personnel discovered a 47-year-old female victim who had sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was in stable condition and had been transported to a local hospital for medical attention. Additionally, a male individual was identified as a victim of reckless endangerment at the same location.
The investigation revealed that the shooting incident stemmed from a road rage altercation involving multiple off-highway vehicles.
Detective Justin Wilkers from the Criminal Investigations Division was assigned to the investigation. His efforts ultimately led to the identification of a suspect, 21-year-old Rondel Jones, against whom arrest warrants were issued police said Tuesday.
On August 21, law enforcement successfully apprehended Rondel Jones. He was subsequently charged with Assault (First Degree), Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, Reckless Endangering (First Degree), and Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony.
Following his arrest, Jones was brought before Justice of the Peace Court 11 for arraignment proceedings. The court set his bail at $142,000, to be paid in cash only. As a result, Jones was remanded to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.
