A New Castle man, David Jewell, aged 47, has been sentenced to life in prison due to convictions in two domestic violence cases. On September 22, Jewell was declared a habitual offender and handed a life sentence for his convictions, which included felony Stalking, Harassment, and 24 counts of Terroristic Threatening. These convictions followed an extensive investigation into hundreds of violent phone calls and messages directed at two victims, one of whom was a minor.
These threats were made while Jewell was serving a nine-year sentence at Sussex Correctional Institution for Assault 2nd Degree and Violation of Probation arising from another domestic violence case. Even after the Department of Correction suspended his ability to contact the victim, Jewell persisted in his abusive behavior, resorting to using other inmates’ SBI numbers to send digital messages and circumvent the order officials said.
In addition to his life sentence, Jewell received an extra two years for a separate felony Stalking conviction. This conviction was related to the more than 100 abusive letters he sent to the same two victims, a clear violation of a September 2021 no-contact order. These cases were part of a disturbing pattern of domestic abuse that traces back to 2001.
Jewell’s history of violence spans over two decades and has impacted five different intimate partners, as well as multiple family members. It includes two violent felony convictions, six non-violent felonies, and 24 violations of probation prior to this recent case.
