Middletown Police are investigating a crash that hospitalized a young woman on Friday morning.
Officials said on January 5, 2024, at around 6:52 a.m., emergency services responded to a serious motor vehicle collision at Summit Bridge Road at Garcia Drive. New Castle County Paramedics, the Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown, and a Delaware State Police Aircraft were dispatched to the scene following reports of a vehicle accident with entrapment.
Lieutenant Abigail Haas, a spokesperson for New Castle County Paramedics provided details of the incident. Upon arrival, first responders discovered a single vehicle, a four-door sedan, that had collided with a utility pole. The impact of the collision left the driver, a 24-year-old woman, trapped inside the vehicle. Rescue personnel from the Volunteer Hose Company extricated the driver within approximately ten minutes.
The driver was immediately attended to by paramedics and EMTs from the Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown. She sustained head and extremity injuries but was reported to be in stable condition. Following initial treatment at the scene, the victim was transported by ground ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton for further medical care.
The Middletown Police Department has taken over the investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
