The New Castle County Division of Police recently apprehended 28-year-old Jahmai Massey on multiple felony charges following a traffic stop.
S/CPL. Richard Chambers, speaking on behalf of the New Castle County Division of Police, said this incident took place on Saturday, March 30, 2024, around 2:05 p.m.. Officers, conducting proactive patrols in the Woodland Trails community, spotted a Genesis GV70 parked on Defoe Circle. This vehicle was previously reported stolen from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the officers made contact with Massey, the driver, and detained him. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed 45 bags of heroin and a loaded handgun with an obliterated serial number said Chambers.
Massey was taken to the New Castle County Police headquarters, where he faced numerous charges, including felony counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, possession of a firearm by a person previously convicted of two violent felonies, possession of a weapon with an obliterated serial number, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, receiving stolen property, and noncompliance with conditions of recognizance bond. Additionally, he was charged with a misdemeanor count of possession or consuming a controlled substance and a civil violation for failing to wear a seatbelt.
Massey was arraigned at the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution, unable to secure release after failing to post a $120,000.00 cash bail.
