Police have arrested a man on drug and weapon charges after his was stopped over the weekend.
Officials said just after 9:30 on Saturday evening, an officer from the New Castle County Division of Police, D-Squad, was conducting a proactive patrol in the Hares Corner area when they observed a black Chevrolet Caprice commit several traffic violations on Route 13.
The officer initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as 48-year-old William Clark of Wilmington. During the stop, signs of impairment were noted, leading to Clark’s arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence police said Wednesday. A search of the vehicle revealed a .38 special revolver handgun, additional ammunition, brass knuckles, 114 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, zip-lock baggies, and $2,100 in cash according to police.
William Clark was subsequently transported to New Castle County Police headquarters, where he was charged with one felony count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, one felony count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, one felony count of possession or control of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, and one felony count of driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol (third offense). He also faced misdemeanor charges, including possession of marijuana other than for personal use, carrying a concealed dangerous instrument, possession of drug paraphernalia not related to personal use, failure to have required insurance, and driving without a valid license. In addition to these charges, he was cited for unreasonable speed and failure to remain within a single lane.
Clark was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and, after failing to post $48,803 cash bail, was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.
