Wilmington Man Charged with DUI and Assaulting Officers During Early Morning Traffic Stop
A Wilmington man faces multiple charges following a traffic stop in Newark that escalated into a struggle with police early Saturday morning.
Officials said at approximately 4:03 a.m. on May 3, 2025, officers with the Newark Police Department observed a vehicle committing several traffic violations in the area of West Chestnut Hill Road. The vehicle was stopped, and during the course of the investigation, officers identified the driver as 23-year-old Jacob Rahme of Wilmington.
Field Sobriety Tests were administered at the scene, and officers determined there was sufficient evidence to arrest Rahme for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol police said. As officers attempted to take Rahme into custody, he resisted arrest and physically assaulted two officers. Both officers sustained injuries during the altercation. Rahme was eventually subdued and transported to Newark Police Headquarters.
Rahme was charged with Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol, two counts of Assault in the Second Degree for injuring law enforcement officers, and Resisting Arrest with Force or Violence Resulting in Injury to a Peace Officer. He was also cited for several traffic violations, including Driving the Wrong Way on a One-Way Road, Driving Across a Median, and Failure to Maintain a Single Lane.
Following arraignment by Justice of the Peace Court #11, Rahme was released on $7,574 unsecured bail.
