Man Airlifted Friday After Serious Crash

A serious motor vehicle collision occurred Friday evening at approximately 6:40 p.m. at the intersection of Persimmon Tree Lane and Leipsic Road, near the Dover Motor Speedway.

Emergency crews arrived to find at least one vehicle with heavy entrapment, requiring a prolonged extrication effort. The first arriving units reported that rescue operations would take additional time due to the severity of the entrapment.

One patient was transported by ground to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital with injuries with specified injuries. A second patient, described as male in his 40s, was flown from the scene by Delaware State Police Aviation’s Trooper 4 helicopter to Christiana Hospital in critical condition at the time of transport.

Authorities have not released the identities of those injured, and the extent of their conditions remains unknown. The incident remains under investigation.
