Police: Suspect In Shooting Of 4-Year-Old Child Sought

The Milford Police Department has obtained arrest warrants for Derreck Morris, 36, of Lincoln, Delaware in connection with the shooting at Brightway Commons on December 23, 2018. The Milford Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating him.

On Sunday evening, December 23, 2018, at approximately 7:44, the Milford Police Department was dispatched to a shots fired incident at Brightway Commons Apartment Complex, according to Detective Timothy Maloney.

Maloney said responding officers learned that a bullet had entered into a residence and struck a 4-year-old child. The child was transported to Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital and was later transferred to A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital in stable condition.

Detectives responded to the scene and through investigation learned that an altercation occurred between multiple subjects in the courtyard on the south side of Allen Way. The investigation revealed that during the altercation an unknown subject fired a handgun and one of the bullets is believed to have been the one to strike the child, according to Maloney.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the subjects involved in the altercation or witnessed the altercation to contact 302-422-8081 or Crime Stoppers at 1.800.TIP.3333.
