DOC: Prisoner, Visitor Arrested For Attempting To Smuggle Suboxone Into Prison

Georgetown- Delaware Department of Correction (DOC) has arrested a female visitor and a sentenced offender after an ongoing investigation revealed that the pair planned to introduce Suboxone into the facility during a scheduled visit, officials said on Wednesday.

Authorities said the incident occurred on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at approximately 5:30 p.m. when Teresa C. Cook, 38 of Lewes, Delaware, entered the visitor lobby area of the Sussex Correctional Institution (SCI), located at 23203 Dupont Boulevard, Georgetown for a scheduled visit where she was found to be in possession of Suboxone concealed on her person.

Cook was developed as a person of interest in an earlier contraband investigation launched by the Sussex Correctional Institution Special Operations Investigation Unit involving sentenced offender Aron W. McNatt, 36 of Lewes, Delaware. The investigation revealed that McNatt solicited Cook to smuggle the Suboxone into the facility during their scheduled visit, according to officials.

“The arrest of Cook and McNatt is a result of our comprehensive strategy to interdict contraband that enters our facilities,” said Deputy Bureau Chief of Prisons Paul G. Shavack. “Through extensive investigative efforts and measures, the Department will continue instituting system-wide measures to combat the flow of contraband, keeping both our Correctional Staff and offenders safe.”

Cook was taken into custody and transported to Delaware State Police Troop 4 where she was processed and charged with the following felonies; Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, Promoting Prison Contraband, and Conspiracy 2nd Degree. Cook was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $3500.00 Secured Bond.
