Police Identify Woman Allegedly Shot And Killed By Her Son In Dover

Delaware State Police arrested Dover man for murder Friday night, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Heather Pepper.

Pepper said on January 7, 2022, at approximately 7:19 p.m., troopers were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Harriet Street in Dover, for reports of a shooting.

Pepper said Kyle Leonard, 35, of Dover, called 9-1-1 and advised he had shot and killed his mother inside the home. When troopers arrived, Leonard was contacted in the front yard of the residence and was taken into custody without incident. Troopers located Debra Leonard, 67, of Dover, deceased inside from an apparent gunshot wound. The handgun was also located and recovered at the scene.

Leonard was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 3 where he was charged with Murder First Degree (Felony) and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony). He was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $200,000.00 cash bond.
