Fire In Newark Apartment Brought Under Control Quickly Friday

On September 1, 2023, in Newark, Delaware, an incident occurred that required the response of several fire companies in Newark.

At 10:58 Friday morning, the Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company, along with mutual aid companies, received an alert about a multi-residential structure fire at the West Knoll Apartments located at 260 S. Main Street in Newark. The call to New Castle County 911 indicated that there was smoke inside the building, prompting a response from the fire department.

Fire department personnel arrived at the scene at 11:03. Initially, there was no visible evidence of a fire on the exterior of the apartment building. However, upon further investigation, firefighters discovered a small fire in the HVAC system of one of the apartments officials said Friday. While firefighters checked for any signs of extension they secured the electrical power and gas supply to the affected apartment.

The situation was brought under control in just 13 minutes, with the incident declared officially resolved at 11:16. There were no reported injuries during this incident.

The City of Newark Code Enforcement and the apartment maintenance office were notified to address any necessary follow-up actions.
